Over time, our chain can become loose or even come off due to excessive wear. So how can we prevent these issues?

First, to prevent chain wear and disengagement, we should adjust the chain tension. To reduce wear and looseness, it’s advisable to select higher‑quality chains, which can also enhance gear machining accuracy and increase the hardness of the working surfaces.

Secondly, when installing the chain, it should be aligned parallel to the chain shaft and properly adjusted; this effectively reduces chain wear. Otherwise, misalignment between the chain and the shaft will exacerbate wear. To improve chain tensioning, we can increase the number of adjusting screws from two to four, which simplifies operation and enhances the safety of chain handling.

The liquid, oil-based substances used for chain lubrication provide industrial chains with lubrication, rust prevention, water resistance, and friction reduction. Depending on the base oil, additives, and manufacturing processes, they are classified into two main categories: industrial grade and food grade. Chain oil is an industrial lubricant designed to lubricate and protect various types of industrial chains, reducing friction and wear, thereby improving transmission efficiency and extending chain life. Chain oil consists of a base oil and additives and can be categorized as follows:

  1. Mineral oil chain lubricant. The base oil is mineral oil and is primarily used under normal operating conditions.

  2. Synthetic chain oils, composed of synthetic base oils (such as PAG, PAO, and ester-based oils), are primarily used in high-temperature and other demanding operating conditions.

  3. Bio-based chain oils are primarily formulated with renewable vegetable‑oil base stocks. Thanks to advances in technology, the performance of vegetable oils and lubricants has improved significantly, with some products now matching the performance levels of synthetic oils. Owing to their biodegradability and low toxicity, these chain oils are commonly used in sensitive environments such as water sources, wetlands, and food‑processing facilities. Depending on the application environment, they are further categorized into different types; for example, high‑temperature chain oils are employed in industrial chains operating at elevated temperatures, while food‑grade chain oils are used in the food‑processing industry. In environmentally sensitive areas, biodegradable chain oils are preferred.
